How to Use Arbitrum Bridge for Bridging ETH Tokens: A Short Guide

Nov 04, 2022  |  Bakhtain Afzal

Offchain Labs released Arbitrum in August 2021 as a Layer 2 (L2) solution for Ethereum's busy network. Arbitrum makes it possible for Ethereum DApps to make transactions faster and cheaper. Some of the biggest names in DeFi, like Uniswap, Curve, and SushiSwap, jumped on the Arbitrum bandwagon right away to take advantage of its benefits and the security of Ethereum.

If you want to learn more about this scaling solution for Ethereum, keep reading to find out how to use arbitrum bridge for bridging and withdrawing ETH tokens.

What Is Arbitrum

The exponential growth of the Ethereum blockchain led to network congestion and high fees when smart contracts were used to settle transactions. The Arbitrum Bridge was made as a way to speed up transactions on Ethereum's Layer 1 (L1) blockchain.

Arbitrum uses the idea of "optimistic rollups" to offer secure transactions with lower gas fees. Smart contracts called "optimistic rollups" "roll up" transactions that happen off-chain into groups. This effectively spreads the costs of the bundled transactions, which leads to lower gas fees and less network congestion while keeping high-security standards.

To connect your ETH assets, you must first link the Arbitrum Bridge to a cryptocurrency wallet. You can also connect Arbitrum to a centralized exchange (CEX) like Bybit in addition to wallets. But MetaMask is the wallet that most people use. Here's how to link MetaMask to Arbitrum Bridge.

How to Connect Arbitrum to Metamask

Users can connect to the Arbitrum platform and bridge from the CEX or web3 DApp, which in this case is the MetaMask wallet. MetaMask users have two ways to add the Arbitrum network to their MetaMask wallet:

Click-Once Method

Arbitrum gives you an easy way to add network information to your MetaMask wallet. Visit the Arbitrum Bridge website by using the one-click method. Click "Add/Switch to Arbitrum Network." The MetaMask wallet will send you a message that will pop up on your screen. When you click "Approve," the Arbitrum Bridge will be added to your MetaMask wallet.

Manual Method

To manually connect the Arbitrum Bridge to your MetaMask wallet, open your wallet and go to Settings > Network > Add Network.

Fill in the following information:

  • Network name: Arb1
  • RPC address: https://arb1.arbitrum.io/rpc
  • Chain number: 42161
  • Currency Sign: ETH
  • Block Explorer URL: https://arbiscan.io

You can add the Arbitrum Bridge to your MetaMask wallet by clicking on Save.
